The following very moving and beautiful poem was written by an amazing client of mine. She describes very well what it is like to be afraid of writing in public.
Panic starts when people stare, My hands freeze up; I try to hide the shame, I’m educated, but humiliated, I can’t even write down my own name.
I once ran out of an interview room, When the shakes came on again, “Fill in this form, please” and panic starts, It’s too difficult to try to explain.
My friend just didn’t get it, I mean, the excuse, it sounded shite, She asked me to certify her passport form, I said “No, because I cannot write.”
“Of course you can, everyone can write” “Well, I can when I’m alone, So, if you need anyone to be able to read this form, Go away and leave me on my own.”
The more I tried to explain it, She just didn’t understand, A look of disbelief, complete incomprehension, “What, you can’t control your hand ?”
When dear, old George fell and cut his head, Sending kind words proved to be too hard, And I suffered a psychiatric episode, As I attempted to sign the frigging card.
Banks and shops and offices, Become like hostile lands, For all us writing phobics, With our frozen or shaky hands.
And so we keep our silence, Scared to voice the inner pain, We confide our fears in no-one, In case they think we are insane.
Who can understand the misery, The frustration and the tears? The hopes destroyed, the dreams all crushed, Victims of our fears.
Then, across the ocean came Devin, An angel, flying in by plane, He said “I’ve written a book for people like you, I know how to remove your pain.”
“Life is too short for this” he said, For, now you have a choice, To move on forward without the fears, Because, now you have a voice.”
I’m still not sure just what he did, He worked some magic somehow, And cured the phobia by saying “Fuck it!” And mooing with a fluffy cow.
### My client is very kind with the credit she gives me. NLP absolutely did help but she is the one who ultimately did the change work. And yes, there really was a cow and some bad language involved but how every client is trance-formed is different. Read about another amazing demonstration of the power of a person's mind by click here. This person cured herself of a 40 year phobia of centipedes. Devin Devin Hastings has written 4 books on the applications of hypnosis and behavioral change methods and he is an international speaker on these subjects. He has given presentations to AT&T, the Better Business Bureau, Law enforcement agencies and many others.
He has also created the following websites with many self-help articles addressing issues such as anxiety, diabetes, depression, OCD, resentment and more:
